Beltane Bluebells

Let us walk through the soft leaved woods, where the new downy leaves are a green briefly seen. Where a spring carpet is laid over copper autumn. Mainstay of undulating blue, sweet hyacinth scented. Hemmed with sunny celandines, frothy sweet woodruff and peeping dog violets. An occasional splash of wood anemones, their slow spread a marker in time.

The aural accompaniment, an unrehearsed symphonic joy that calls from the canopy. And if you are lucky, a cuckoo solo. Then you will know you are wrapped in the arms of time, held fast in an English Spring perfected by diligent millennial practice.
