Gather your yarn or fibres, pattern or notes, wheel, spindle, hooks or needles and perhaps set the scene.
Perhaps try one of the following….
Set aside some alone time.
Wash the day from your hands with a scented handmade soap.
Craft outside if it’s warm enough. Or with a candle for company.
Light some wax melts or a scented candle, to feed your olfactory senses.
Use a yarn bowl.
Consider using a handmade crochet hook or knitting needles for a tactile, maker to maker experience.
Why not have a special pen and notebook to make pattern notes in, or to just jot down ideas as your mind enjoys its wanders.
Maybe turn off the TV and listen instead to the sounds of nature, birdsong, lapping waves or a rain storm. Or just the company of your thoughts.
If I’m making something for a particular person, I like to think fondly about them. Placing warm wishes, intentions or prayers that become woven into the stitches.
The act of making is a kind of meditation which becomes a positive feedback loop. As you pour kindness and care into your project, it is in turn nurturing you also.
